UAW Region 1 Spring Educational Program
UAW Region 1 is offering six weeks of FREE educational workshops beginning Tuesday, April 3, 2018. Participants will have a choice between morning (10 a.m. -12 p.m.) or evening (5-7p.m.) workshops. Each workshop is for six consecutive weeks. Participants must attend five out of six training sessions to receive a Certificate of Completion. The certificates will be handed out in the 6th week of class.
Workshops being offered this season are:
Tuesday Classes: Morning or Evenings: (April 3, 10, 17, 24, May 1,8) -Class size is limited to 45 students
Grievance Handling: This course teaches the skills needed to represent workers with grievance Topics to include: what is and is not a grievance, proper grievance investigation techniques and written grievance presentation skills.
Collective Bargaining: This course will instruct members on how to negotiate a contract. The focus of this class includes proper bargaining table etiquette, preparing proposals, what information to request before bargaining and many more negotiating skills.
Union Structure and Protocol: Participants will spend five weeks learning and discussing the protocols, “Do’s and Don’ts”, and basic UAW membership information. This course is designed for all members who want a better understanding of how the UAW works. It would be most valuable to the rank and file who are new to the UAW and its procedures. This course will review such topics as the UAW’s hierarchy, how and where dues dollars are distributed, as well as other grassroots level information.
All workshops will be held at Region 1.
